GUEST SERVICE REPRESENTATIVE (Cashier)

DESCRIPTION:
Provide information and assist guests with ticket purchases for Zoo admission and attractions offerings and stroller rentals, while providing exceptional service and ensuring the secure collection and deposit of all forms of payment and related media.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Provides exceptional internal and external guest service according to established guidelines. Greets and assists guests in a friendly and positive manner regarding Zoo offerings, prices, information and directions.
• Uses computerized admissions system to issue tickets and items, retrieve stored orders and check event availability.
• Collects cash or other payment from guests, determining amount due and change required. Records payments, balances register; makes cash collections from donation and vending areas utilizing computerized admissions system and other procedures when needed.
• Performs routine accounting and money handling tasks related to receiving, recording and depositing payments.
• Maintains accounting and record of all cash, coupons, promotional materials and donations received.
• Operates computer and other office equipment in an efficient and effective manner, answering phones and retrieving messages. Verifies various payment vouchers, forms and documents.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

EXPERIENCE:
Three years of experience as a cashier in a high volume operation with heavy customer contact is desired. Good math and counting skills with exceptional customer service experience may be substituted for experience as a cashier.

KNOWLEDGE:
High School diploma or GED is required. Bilingual skills are desired. Must have excellent oral communication skills with the ability to deal cheerfully with guests. Must be able to work under considerable pressure in crowds and with difficult guests. Good written communication skills are needed to prepare reports and take down information accurately and thoroughly.

Guest Service Representatives are required to meet high standards of Zoo knowledge and Guest service. In addition, they are required to complete an on-going program of continuing education in order to maintain a high level of customer service.

SKILLS:

PHYSICAL EFFORT:
The position requires moderate physical effort on a daily basis such as walking, bending, stooping and standing for long periods. Cashiers must maintain their stations at their booths for extended periods and engage in rapid and repetitive hand motions.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:
The work environment is generally comfortable but requires sitting or standing for long periods in a small, enclosed booth even in bad weather. Some posts may be outdoors and subject to extremes of heat and cold. The use of mild cleaning materials is required on occasion.

PHYSICAL SKILL:
Requires excellent hand/eye co-ordination, ability to count out change and bills, rapidly, and ability to work for long periods at a computer keyboard, clear speech, and good audio skills.

PUBLIC CONTACT:
Requires heavy public contact requiring considerable interpersonal skill, extensive interaction with the public requiring a high degree of appreciation of customer service.



GREETER

DESCRIPTION:
Greeter is a highly visible position responsible for assisting Zoo guests when entering or exiting the Zoo. Must be outgoing and engaging when interacting with guests. Greeter will also monitor re-entry into the Zoo.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Must be friendly, positive and portray a helpful attitude to our guests.
• Must be adept at handling Guest inquiries in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment while efficiently processing ticket media.
• Provide crowd control if necessary during peak times and seasons.
• Performs safety checks of guest items while welcoming them in a warm and friendly manner.
• Provides information and directions to guests concerning the Zoo mission, Zoo rules and Zoo events.
• Provides assistance to Guest Services staff as needed.
• Responds to emergency situations providing assistance to guests and staff and facilitating support from fire and police officers.
• Assist in answering questions from guests.
• Monitors area to ensure a secure environment and reports problems to supervisors; may require intervention with public to deal with problems.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

EXPERIENCE:
Guest service experience in a fast-paced environment is a plus.

KNOWLEDGE:

Greeters are required to meet high standards of Zoo knowledge and Guest service. In addition, Zoo Greeters are required to complete an on-going program of continuing education in order to maintain a high level of customer service.

SKILLS:

PHYSICAL EFFORT:
The position involves standing for long periods of time. It may also involve considerable physical exertion, such as extensive walking, bending, stooping and regular climbing of ladders, lifting of heavy objects (up to 80 pounds) on a highly frequent basis and/or assuming awkward positions for long periods of time.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:
There are routine exposures to significant levels of heat, cold, moisture and air pollution. The position may involve periodic exposure to chemical substances and physical trauma of a minor nature such as cuts, bruises and minor burns.

PHYSICAL SKILL:
Requires the ability to make coordinated gross motor movements in response to changing external stimuli with in moderately demanding tolerances; or the ability to make coordinated eye/hand movements on a patterned response space within low tolerance demands with no real speed requirements. Requires standing for prolonged periods of time.

PUBLIC CONTACT:
Requires heavy public contact involving considerable interpersonal skill, extensive interaction with guests, members, donors and the press. A high degree of appreciation of Guest service is required.
